Bus payment guides in Spain
Spain is moving fast to contactless bank-card payment on buses. Island and city operators now widely accept tap-to-pay, often at a discount versus cash.
Barcelona
Barcelona TMB buses let you buy and validate a single bus ticket by tapping a contactless bank card at the reader by the driver's cab; T-mobilitat remains better for passes and multi-ride products.

Madrid EMT bus single tickets are bought onboard and can be paid by card or cash; cash change is limited, and the Airport Express has its own onboard fare.

Yes — since March 2026 you can tap a contactless bank card (or Apple Pay/Google Pay) on every EMT Palma bus, including the A1 airport line, and card is cheaper than cash (A1 €3 by card vs €5 cash). Cash still works but drivers only take notes of €20 or less, and there's no tap-off.

On Tenerife's TITSA guaguas you can tap a contactless Visa/Mastercard (no PIN), including phone wallets, on every route, or pay the driver in cash with exact change. The optional €2 Ten+ card is cheaper for multiple trips — and with Ten+ you must validate again when you get off.
